A thorough history is taken to determine predisposing factors, teeth clenching, previous trauma and surgery, dental procedures, related symptoms may include upper neck limited range of motion, headaches and dizziness, muscular referral patterns, forward head carriage.​

An Assessment of TMJ movement is initially undertaken including jaw movement patterns, timing of mandible condyle with jaw opening and closing, deviations in mandible in resting position and with motion, and also range of movement ( how far does your mouth open, and does it close with no restriction), clicking and other audible sounds are also noted which are checked during and  post treatment to evaluate progress.



TMJ Dysfunction presents itself as complex with unique manifestations for each individual.
